Acoustic Sunday Songwriters Hosted by Mike Berman
Sunday, June 8th @ 2:30 PM
Tanager Way is a collaboration among four established Southern California singer/songwriters, bringing the acoustic harmony, folk-rock sound of Laurel Canyon to their original songs as well crowd-favorite covers. Mike Berman (electric guitar, mandolin), Lisa Jackert (violin, guitar), Jennifer Moraca (guitar) and Ron Grigsby (guitar) combine their stellar voices in shimmering three-part and four-part harmonies. Jennifer and Ron also perform together as the Odd Birds, while Lisa and Mike can be found performing all over Southern California, both solo and in various duos and bands.
Jannel Rap has opened her heart and her music to what might be possible. Her mission: use the power of music to create awareness for missing people and a door of hope for their families. She is the founder of the GINA for Missing Persons FOUNDation. Jannel has shared the stage with Nickel Creek, Loudon Wainwright III, Sophie B. Hawkins, John Waite, Lowen and Navarro, Hal Ketchum, Don McLean, Susan Gibson and more. Jannel is a highly-respected songwriter, has released five CDs and is well-known as a frequent performer as well as a teacher in Orange County.
Hilary Cousins’s music combines elements of rock, folk, americana, and atmospheric soundscapes. His lyrics veer away from the story-teller approach and tend to have more evocative and expressionistic leanings. The songs offer cinematic-like reflections on encounters and journeys in which the boundaries between the self and the other – and between the beloved and the divine – become confused and intertwine. The drama in Cousins' songs reveals an acute awareness of love, grief, the yearning for connectedness, and the struggle to understand an unconquerable world.
Kathleen Kelso grew up in West LA and has been performing all her life, but only recently started writing and playing original music. Her debut single, What It Is, was released in late March of 2022 and her first EP, Easy Smile, is currently in production with a release planned for the end of June.Kelso's expressive vocals, tender but powerful, are the focal point of her sound and are usually supported by sparse acoustic arrangements. A charming onstage presence balances out the melancholy found in her songs, which often deal with the pain found in relationships of all kinds. Her musical influences include Brandi Carlile, Phoebe Bridgers, and Elton John.
